Lance Sims

Senior Paralegal

Lance Sims is the senior paralegal at the Project On Government Oversight. He joined POGO in 2018, and works with the general counsel and coordinates or conducts research projects and assists in organizational activities including nonprofit compliance, contract formation, employment law issues, and compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. He assists in crafting and reviewing legal strategy in response to any litigation or legal-related issues that arise for the organization. Lance also works with POGO teams and outside legal counsel on FOIA related issues, organizes and manages FOIA records on POGO’s cloud storage system, and communicates with federal agencies regarding the status of POGO’s requests.

Since 2004, Lance has worked as a civil and criminal litigation paralegal, and has worked on cases in local, state, appellate, and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. In addition to case management, discovery, and court filings, his law firm experience includes preparation of congressional testimony and reports.

Lance earned his master’s degree in public health from the Howard University College of Medicine in 2006. He earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology from Howard University in 2003, where he graduated magna cum laude.
