Legal Intern ProgramIf you are not a law student or lawyer, please click here to be taken to POGO's general internship page. Do You See Your Future with A Public Interest Organization or The Federal Government or On Capitol Hill?
The main job of our legal interns is to work with POGO's general counsel and senior investigators in researching government spending, especially federal contract spending. This research often requires working with federal statutes and regulations, filing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, attending congressional hearings, researching legislative history at the Library of Congress, and working with various government agencies and nonprofit organizations. On occasion, legal interns work with whistleblowers. Interns' research frequently results in an alert or report that is disseminated to Members of Congress, senior government officials, and the print and broadcast media. In addition to research, interns also may write opinion-editorial pieces for media release and assist in the writing and editing of testimony to be delivered at congressional hearings.
