96 Groups Tell the House S. 372 Is a Good Deal for Whistleblowers and Taxpayers

Yesterday, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) and a broad coalition of more than 96 groups, including the National Taxpayers Union, the Government Accountability Project, and the American Federation of Government Employees sent a strong letter of support for Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act (S. 372) to members of the House of Representatives.

The House could vote on the bill as early as tomorrow on these critical reforms to federal whistleblower protections which passed the Senate by unanimous consent last Friday. The groups are urging the House to pass S. 372 without amendments, although the bill does not contain every reform sought by the coalition, there is no time for additional tinkering.

But one group is spearheading a disinformation campaign to kill the bill. However, the overwhelming majority of whistleblowers, NGOs, and whistleblower advocates support this landmark reform which represents a true compromise between the original versions of the House and Senate legislation. It has the support of Representatives Towns (D-NY), Issa (R-CA), and Van Hollen (D-MD), the original sponsor of the House bill. The White House has indicated President Obama will sign the bill.
