Speaker Boehner’s Inaction Will Kill FOIA Reform

For all of his talk about his desire to hold the Obama Administration accountable, we find it unfathomable that Speaker John Boehner would allow a bill that strengthens and reforms the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to die without a vote.

S.2520 is a critical bill that strengthens the Office of Government Information Services—an important FOIA watchdog—and would force agencies to finally deliver the levels of transparency that President Obama promised on his first day in office in 2009. We call on Speaker Boehner to do the right thing for the American public and work with Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi to pass S.2520 by unanimous consent before the House leaves for the year.
