POGO to Congress: Help Flint Water Victims Before Skipping Town

WASHINGTON -- Before they adjourn for upcoming elections, POGO is calling on leaders in the US House and Senate to urgently help the people affected by the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

POGO Executive Director Danielle Brian says:

“There are people suffering because this issue is being unnecessarily politicized. There is broad bipartisan support to help the victims of the Flint water crisis, so the House and Senate should find a way to get it done before they leave town for more than a month.

The current situation is reminiscent of the difficulty Congress had passing health care funding for first responders in 2015. Despite widespread support, that bill stalled when it became politicized and it took substantial public pressure before Congress figured out a way to do the right thing and pass the legislation.

We do not want a repeat of those mistakes.”
