POGO Applauds Senate Passage of FBI Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act

The Project On Government Oversight (POGO) applauds today’s passage of the FBI Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act in the Senate. POGO Executive Director Danielle Brian said:

“We are pleased that Congress has voted to close a dangerous loophole that was failing to protect FBI whistleblowers who report problems to their direct supervisors.

Thanks to the work spearheaded by the House and Senate Whistleblower Caucuses, we are closer to protecting whistleblowers as Congress intended in 1978 when it passed the first whistleblower protection law.

The vast majority of whistleblower complaints are made to direct supervisors- so this is a major improvement. However, this bill’s scope is narrow and only the first step. Further legislation is necessary to sufficiently protect FBI whistleblowers from retaliation.”
