Thousands of Petitioners Tell Inspector General to Back Off Demand for POGO’s Whistleblower Records

More than 18,500 people have signed a petition asking the Inspector General (IG) at the Department of Veterans Affairs to drop its demand for the names of whistleblowers who have contacted the Project On Government Oversight (POGO). POGO delivered the petition signatures to the IG’s office today.

In the days and weeks since falsification of records at VA hospitals made national headlines, POGO collected tips from nearly 800 whistleblowers through an encrypted form at, a website that POGO and its partners at the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) launched May 15.

Acting VA IG Richard Griffin subsequently issued a subpoena to POGO asking for all information POGO has received related to problems at the VA, including the names of any VA employees or veterans who have contacted POGO.

POGO has refused to comply with Griffin’s demands for its records, saying that the subpoena violated its First Amendment rights of speech, press and association.

The IG does not need and should not have information on whistle blowers! They have to be granted immunity so they can blow the whistle without fear of chastisement!

Investigate wrongdoing wherever it is to be found and prosecute the wrongdoers. The real wrongdoers, not the whistleblowers.

Hi, I tried to contact POGO mid-May, 3013, regarding my harrowing whistleblowing experience at a VA as a healthcare provider. I received no response.

CRIMINALS and the inept always want secrecy and will try to bury all dissent and gag any whistleblower. Nearly 800 whistleblowers, and the criminals want their identies--WHY? How are they planning to gag them. Like a bunch of roaches scurrying when the light is turned on.

I am very sorry to hear how Mr Obama beats up on Whistleblower people. It usually is at a great cost to the person exposing the wrong. That is just not right. I think we should prosecute Mr Obama and his prosecuting attorney for False Arrest. I think their actions are much more damaging than any whistle blower is going to do.Chelsea Manning is a bag of Trumped Up Charges there is no real information that has been released, and Mr Obama and his people should be Arrested and Prosecuted.

Senator with all due respect I think the best interest of the American people, is to reject the candidates on both the left/right do. I cannot be the only Americans, that is's. The government has been shut down by the right, lead by the minority, twisted tea party leaders way past time, to clean house. After 14+yrs, of Americans enduring the yet unnamed/unjustifiable war, of the Government not putting up 1/2 trillion to rebuild our infrastructure. We are the cause, and Mother Nature, never allows a species, to not be brought back in allowace/balance.

America is at a crossroads. Shall we continue to be a Republic? Will our Constitution and Bill of Rights remain intact? Whisleblowers are at the fore front of preserving our rights to know? Without such people the evil doers would have no problem enslaving all Americans. So let us back off from prosecuting whisleblowers and stand down where POGO is concerned.

whistleblowers take a lot of personal risk to help change or at least expose dangerous practices. they need to be protected. DO NOT REVEAL in any way, their personal records!!!
