Tell Sen. Rockefeller To Release His Hold on FOIA ReformTweet
December 5, 2014
The most critical reform of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in the past 38 years will die next week in the Senate unless we persuade Sen. Jay Rockefeller to remove his “hold” on this important legislation, which ensures the public has access to government information that affects our health, safety and welfare.
It’s urgent that you take as many of these actions as you can today and then send this blog post to everyone you know.
- If you’re on Twitter, copy and paste this tweet: “Why is @SenRockefeller standing in the way of #FOIA reform? Tell him to release his hold on #opengov”
- If you’re on Facebook, click here and leave a comment on Sen. Rockefeller’s Facebook page:
- Email these senate staffers -- Greg Buzzard, John Williams, and James Reid -- and tell them: “I believe in open government and support FOIA reform. Please tell Sen. Rockefeller to release his hold.”
- Call the Commerce Committee at (202) 224-0411 and tell them that you want Sen. Rockefeller to release his hold on FOIA reform.
Sen. Rockefeller has been a strong supporter of open government during his career. It’s hard to understand why one of his last acts in office would be to block this important, bipartisan reform.
I can’t promise that our tweets, emails and calls will make the Senator change course. However, I can guarantee you that if we do nothing, this reform will certainly die. Please make your voice heard.
