Our system of checks and balances must be maintained for the federal government to function effectively and with integrity. Yet POGO has observed that congressional oversight and the oversight infrastructure at various agencies in charge of watchdogging executive branch misconduct is uneven at best. As a result, the federal government is unnecessarily vulnerable to the influence of powerful special interests. POGO seeks to improve accountability throughout the federal government to prevent the abuse of taxpayer dollars and the betrayal of the public’s trust.
