POGO's Legal Intern Program

Do You See Your Future With A Public Interest Organization Or The Federal Government Or On Capitol Hill?

The Project On Government Oversight (POGO) offers a great opportunity to observe how Washington works and protect the public interest. POGO's legal interns work in the areas of public interest and administrative law as well as with federal legislation and government contracts. Working as a POGO legal intern allows you to use the tools available to citizens to research the government and corporations and gain experience working with the Executive agencies, Members of Congress, the media, and nonprofit organizations.

The main job of our legal interns is to work with POGO's general counsel and senior investigators in researching government subservience to special interests. This research often requires working with federal statutes and regulations, filing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, attending congressional hearings, researching legislative history at the Library of Congress, and working with various government agencies and nonprofit organizations. On occasion, legal interns work with whistleblowers. Interns' research frequently results in an alert or report that is disseminated to Members of Congress, senior government officials, and the print and broadcast media. In addition to research, interns also may write opinion-editorial pieces for media release and assist in the writing and editing of testimony to be delivered at congressional hearings.
