POGO Applauds New DOJ State Secrets Policy: Open Government Breakthrough Ensures Greater Accountability

September 23, 2009

“The Administration’s new policy to ensure the appropriate use of the State Secrets privilege finally provides checks and balances to a tool that has too often been used to suppress claims against the government. Requiring a review committee, Attorney General approval, Congressional oversight and Inspector General review allows for a reasonable balance between preserving legitimate secrets and protecting the public interest. POGO applauds this open government breakthrough.”

Statement by Danielle Brian, Executive Director, Project On Government Oversight

Department of Justice Press Release

Founded in 1981, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is a nonpartisan independent watchdog that champions good government reforms. POGO's investigations into corruption, misconduct, and conflicts of interest achieve a more effective, accountable, open, and ethical federal government.
