Geoff Wilson

Director of the Center for Defense information

Geoff Wilson 1000

Geoff Wilson is the director of the Center for Defense information at POGO, where he leads a team of experts and analysts to fight for a more effective and accountable national security policy. Geoff believes that our defense spending, the largest category of discretionary spending in the U.S. budget, should be held to the highest accountability standards. A failure to confront waste, fraud, and abuse in our defense spending should be seen as a major indictment of our system, one that puts our servicemembers at risk while making the American people less safe.

Prior to coming to POGO, Geoff was the political director at the Council for a Livable World, where he worked to reduce the threats posed by global nuclear weapons arsenals, fight for a reasonable national security policy, and push for a diplomacy-first approach to the world’s most challenging foreign policy problems. Before that, he worked at the Ploughshares Fund as a nuclear weapons and Pentagon budget expert and as a development and communications manager.

Geoff has been featured as a resource by news outlets including Salon, U.S. News & World Report, Defense News, and The National Interest; has contributed to several major reports on nuclear weapons policy; and has written dozens of articles on nuclear weapons, nuclear warfighting, the Pentagon budget, the forever wars, and U.S. foreign policy. He was also the longtime host of the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation’s podcast Nukes of Hazard.

He holds an M.A. in comparative politics from American University and a B.A. in political science from the University of San Diego.
