Whistleblowers are essential to good government. When all else fails to stop government corruption, those who witness it must be able to come forward and expose it. But weak protections for federal employees who blow the whistle force those with knowledge of government wrongdoing to think twice about speaking up. They must make the difficult choice to either stay silent or to risk their careers. But it doesn’t need to be that way.
The Whistleblower Protection Improvement Act would make it safer for government employees who witness corruption to speak up. In part, it would
- protect their anonymity from anyone outside the government;
- make it easier for whistleblowers facing retaliation to defend themselves; and
- allow whistleblowers to access a jury trial in federal court under certain circumstances.
That’s why we’ve been advocating tirelessly for Congress to pass this bipartisan legislation. And now, we need your help getting it past the finish line.
