We recently launched a weekly pop-up newsletter examining how the federal government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic has been tainted by corruption.
Each issue, delivered every Thursday afternoon, will dive into a particular theme, program, or agency to illustrate how the relief effort has been corrupted and how that corruption has impacted the American people.
We’re casting a broad net: We won’t just look at illegal corruption like bribery and fraud, but also at the less obvious forms corruption takes, like corporate influence, conflicts of interest, and political meddling. Our first two issues examined how systemic corruption led to the Paycheck Protection Program benefiting the wealthy and powerful, and how the race to find a vaccine is being hampered by cronyism and the outsized influence of Big Pharma.
Rather than provide readers with a rundown of the latest news on pandemic corruption, our newsletter synthesizes news and puts it in context to show how systemic corruption has impaired the government’s response. We hope our newsletter gives readers a deeper and broader understanding of not just the successes and failures of the relief effort, but of the American political system overall.
If you have a theme or issue you think we should cover in Corrupted: The COVID-19 Response, please reach out to [email protected]. We’d love to hear your tips and insights.
