The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) is a trade association founded in 1919 that represents approximately 340 member companies within the aerospace and defense industries. According to its 2019 facts and figures report, the aerospace and defense industries raked in over $929 billion in 2018 sales, and supported an estimated 2.5 million American jobs. In 2019, the AIA spent over $1.8 million lobbying agencies such as the Departments of Defense, State, and Commerce, according to data compiled by OpenSecrets. The trade group focused on issues like sanctions legislation, reforming the process of foreign military sales, and progress payments for defense contractors, according to AIA’s lobbying disclosures.
