Clarifai is a Wilmington, Delaware-based artificial intelligence firm founded in 2013. According to the company’s website, it counts a wide range of clients, including the Department of Defense and defense contractors BAE Systems, CACI, and Palantir. Known government partnerships have included Project Maven (also known as the Algorithmic Warfare Cross-Functional Team), an AI initiative launched by the Pentagon in 2017, and research and development with the U.S. Army on large-scale data labeling.
In 2018, a former employee alleged that Clarifai had a $7 million contract for Project Maven, an amount on which Clarifai declined to comment. Early in 2021, Clarifai established a Public Sector Advisory Council made up of four former senior Pentagon officials, including Lieutenant General Robert P. Ashley, Jr., the former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.
