A year and a half after leaving government, Nixon joined Academi as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Academi, formerly known as Blackwater and Xe Services, is a private security, law enforcement, and professional military firm originally founded by Erik Prince. The last year he was at CENTCOM the company had received $73.3 million in Department of Defense contracts (click on the “Time” tab for yearly totals). In his role as CEO, Nixon oversaw Academi’s merger with several other independent security companies, forming Constellis Holdings in 2014, which calls itself “one of the world’s largest private security firms.”
According to a fiscal year 2011 report from the Department of Defense, CENTCOM relied heavily on private security contractors in both Afghanistan and Iraq with nearly 10,000 and 21,544, respectively.
