Elbridge A. Colby worked for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy as the deputy assistant secretary of defense for strategy and force development from May 2017 until leaving in July 2018, according to his LinkedIn profile. His profile states that he “served as the lead official in the development of the 2017 Secretary’s Force Planning Priorities, which guided the review of and topline increases for the FY 2019 defense budget, and the 2018 Defense Planning Guidance.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, the very same month he left government, Colby joined WestExec Advisors, a strategic advisory firm co-founded by former under secretary of defense for policy Michèle Flournoy and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as a senior advisor. WestExec Advisors brands itself as a “bipartisan team of senior national security leaders with the most recent experience … in defense, foreign policy, intelligence, economics, cybersecurity, data privacy, and strategic communications.” In late 2020, Blinken and Avril Haines, who was later confirmed as the Director of National Intelligence disclosed that clients they had advised through WestExec included defense contractors Boeing, McKinsey & Company, and Palantir.
Colby did not respond to request for comment.
