Registration for this event has closed. Check below for video, audio, or other resources from the event.

Presenters:

  • Margaret Daum, Partner, Squire Patton Boggs. Previously, Ms. Daum served as the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs Staff Director for the Subcommittee on Financial & Contracting Oversight and Staff Director for the Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight, where she directed investigations into sexual assault at colleges and universities, aggressive sales and marketing tactics in the medical equipment industry, wartime contracting practices in Iraq and Afghanistan, and mismanaged and mismarked graves at Arlington National Cemetery. Prior to serving in the Senate, Margaret served as Counsel for the US House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform under Chairman Henry Waxman, where she conducted investigations into the federal government and private sector.
  • Alan Slobodin, Chief Investigative Counsel for Oversight and Investigations, House Energy and Commerce Committee. Mr. Slobodin has continuously worked on oversight and investigations since joining the Committee staff in 1995. As an oversight counsel, he has worked investigations involving public health, with a particular focus on biodefense and high-containment laboratories, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Among the investigations he has spearheaded are ones involving: opioid distribution, FDA’s foreign-drug inspection program, patient access to experimental drugs, blood safety, counterfeit drugs, issues related to an insider-trading scandal in connection with an FDA-regulated product, and the NIH ethics program.

This session was moderated by Mandy Smithberger, Director for the Center for Defense Information.
