POGO Response to President Trump's Letter

By Danielle Brian & Liz Hempowicz | Filed under letter | April 24, 2018

President Donald Trump
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave, NW
Washington DC 20500

Dear President Trump:

Thank you for your response to my letter of a year ago explaining the need to “drain the swamp” in Washington. The Project On Government Oversight (POGO) has believed that for too long special interests have monopolized the attention of our nation’s political leadership and policymakers, blocking out the concerns of hard-working Americans.

You highlighted a few initiatives that you have taken in office, including your Executive Order that banned appointees from lobbying after leaving government and legislation passed by Congress that made it easier for the Department of Veterans Affairs to fire problematic employees. POGO has worked on issues such as these for nearly 40 years. We have even been critical of some of your initiatives as not going far enough to address the systemic problems that damage our federal government.

As an organization made up of supporters from both sides of the political aisle, we stand ready to work together with your Administration to reduce the influence of special interests in DC. I would like to request a meeting with you and your staff to discuss your Administration’s efforts in this regard, and to discuss some areas that require your attention.

Sincerely,

Danielle Brian
Executive Director
