Press Statement on Walter Shaub Resignation as Director Ethics Office

Today, Walter Shaub announced his resignation as Director of the Office of Government Ethics (OGE), less than six months ahead of when his 5-year term would end.

The Project On Government Oversight Executive Director Danielle Brian issued the following statement:

“We want to wish Walter Shaub all the best. As Director of OGE he demonstrated a real commitment to maintaining ethics standards for our government. I hope his replacement is willing to uphold the highest ethics standards for everyone in the federal government.

POGO agrees with Walt’s assessment that current ethics program “needs to be stronger than it is” and we will continue push Congress to make the changes necessary for the OGE to both investigate and enforce compliance with the ethic laws."
