About POGO Investigates

POGO Investigates is a small, nonprofit newsroom staffed by journalists, researchers, editors, and fact checkers whose nonpartisan, original reporting seeks to expose systemic corruption and abuse of power in the federal government.

We are the news reporting division of the Project On Government Oversight (POGO), an organization with nearly 50 years’ experience producing high-quality, nonpartisan, evidence-based investigations into government waste, fraud, and abuse.

Our investigative journalism is produced separately and independently from POGO’s policy and advocacy work, and it adheres to the highest standards of editorial independence and journalistic ethics.

The POGO Investigates team is composed of award-winning reporters, editors, researchers, and fact checkers previously affiliated with notable media and policy organizations including the Center for Public Integrity, the Center for Effective Government, CNN, El Paso Matters, Fox News, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and the Scripps Washington Bureau.

We generate story ideas from a variety of sources, including tips from federal government insiders and whistleblowers, government and private sector databases, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

Our investigations are published independently, and we have co-published with prominent print and online media partners such as Mother Jones, Rolling Stone, The New Republic, and The Texas Observer. Our investigative findings are regularly covered by major media outlets including ABC, Breitbart, CNN, MSNBC, Fast Company, New York Post, The New York Times, Washington Examiner, and The Washington Post.

Over the last decade, POGO’s investigations have garnered several industry awards. These include recognition from the Society of Professional Journalists, Society for Features Journalism, Military Reporters and Editors, the Society for Advanced Business Editing and Writing, the National Headliner Awards, The Ambies, The Signal Awards, and the New York Festivals Radio Awards.
