Editorial Independence Policy

The Project On Government Oversight (POGO) retains full authority over editorial content to protect the best journalistic interests of our organization. We maintain a firewall between news coverage decisions and sources of all revenue. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their opinions.

POGO also maintains a firewall between its investigative journalism and its policy advocacy efforts.

POGO accepts gifts, grants, and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the general support of our activities, including both our investigative journalism and policy advocacy, but our decisions about what investigative stories to pursue are made independently and not on the basis of donor support. To preserve our independence, POGO does not knowingly accept contributions from for-profit corporations, labor unions, any government, or anyone who stands to benefit financially from our work. Contributions are reviewed to ensure our independence (see POGO Investigates' Donation Policy).

POGO may consider donations to support the coverage of particular topics, but our organization maintains editorial control of the coverage. We will cede no right of review or influence of editorial content, nor of unauthorized distribution of editorial content.

For more information about POGO’s financials and donors, please see our latest Annual Report.
