Privacy Policy: What We Ask For and How We Use It
We
automatically collect Internet Protocol ("IP") addresses and domain
names of the originating visitor's computer on our server and may know
some information you have previously provided through cookies. POGO
collects standard web server traffic pattern information using IP
addresses and/or session cookies, but we do not associate any individual
IP address or session information with any other personally identifying
information except to detect security intrusions or certain unlawful
activity. When you register on our website, we may store some
information on your computer in the form of a "cookie" (i.e. a small
piece of text that stores information on your browser in your computers
hard drive) or similar file. We do this to collect information about
your activities on the website, make it possible for you to keep track
of items you wish to purchase on our website, deliver to you content
that is specific to your interests, and/or to prevent you from
re-entering all your registration data at each connection. We also use
conversion tracking cookies in order to analyze trends, gather broad
demographic information, and monitor site traffic patterns that can help
us further develop and improve the design and functionality of our
site. The cookies shall only be used to obtain non-personal information
to improve our website. No other information is stored in these cookies.
You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie and
delete any cookies you receive. We do this to support your anonymity.
POGO uses this information internally to perform website traffic
analysis so we can better improve POGO.org. This type of information is
shared externally only on an aggregated basis and never specific to any
given individual. POGO never sells or rents your data.
In addition, if you come to POGO.org from a website link, we may
also identify the source of that link so that we can evaluate what
content is persuading individuals to come to POGO.org.
We may
collect Voluntarily Submitted Data, including personal data that you
voluntarily provide, such as your name, postal address, phone number,
email address, and similar information, and transactional information,
such as giving and action-taking history, when you participate in
certain activities on POGO.org, including (but not limited to) when you:
- join POGO’s email update list;
- make a contribution supporting POGO;
- send correspondence, place a call, inform us about a call to your
government representative, or send correspondence to a friend (e.g. when
you tell-a-friend or send an e-card) or to other targeted
representatives through POGO.org;
- order items from POGO’s Marketplace;
- register online for an event;
- participate in one of our online petitions or surveys;
- post a blog comment; or
- participate in any activity that requires your Voluntarily Submitted Data.
As with
cookies, this type of information is shared externally only on an
aggregated basis and never specific to any given individual. POGO never
sells or rents your data. When
you send correspondence to a friend, your friend's email address is
only captured by us temporarily in order to complete your send request.
How We Protect Personal Information
In
order to protect your personal information and privacy to the best of
our ability, we use industry-standard encryption, network firewalls,
physical security, and administrative safeguards. Our website has
industry standard high encryption security measures in place to protect
the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control.
These measures increase the security and privacy of information.
Only our authorized employees or agents carrying out permitted
business functions are allowed to access personal information. POGO’s
staff is educated about the importance of safeguarding your information
and we are committed to holding them accountable for protecting your
confidentiality. POGO vendors have acknowledged our privacy policy. POGO
makes every effort to protect your online order information by using
Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. SSL encrypts your order
information to avoid the decoding of that information by anyone other
than POGO. We do not store your credit card information.
Nevertheless, despite our best efforts, no transmission over the
Internet and no data storage method can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
POGO makes no warranty, guarantee, or representation that the use of
the site is protected from viruses, security threats, or other
vulnerabilities or that your information will always be secure.
POGO employees who violate our privacy access policies may be
subject to disciplinary actions, which may include termination. POGO
vendors who violate POGO’s privacy policy will have their contracts
terminated.
Surveys
POGO may conduct occasional online surveys via our
website or our email updates. These surveys are entirely voluntary and
you may easily decline to participate.
