Turning American Cities into Military “Training Grounds” Would Trample on the Constitution
Turning U.S. cities into training grounds for the military is an abuse of power that threatens communities and undermines constitutional freedoms.
Washington, D.C. — In light of President Trump’s abhorrent suggestion that American cities should be “training grounds” for the military, Virginia Burger, Senior Defense Policy Analyst at the Project On Government Oversight (POGO), issued the following statement:
“American cities are not, and can never be, ‘training grounds’ for the military. This is exactly what the Constitution was meant to protect us from.
“Our streets, our schools, and our playgrounds are not war zones. The deployment of troops into American cities has been concerning enough — but this latest escalation of rhetoric is unfathomable. Anyone who cares about protecting the civil liberties on which this country was founded must speak out against a president abusing their power to exercise total control.”
