As Part of Newsroom Expansion, POGO Investigates Hires Veteran Journalist Kyle Rempfer
As a senior investigative reporter, Rempfer will cover Pentagon issues.
Washington, D.C. — As part of its ongoing expansion efforts, POGO Investigates, the nonprofit newsroom division of the Project On Government Oversight, announced today that it is bringing on journalist Kyle Rempfer as a senior investigative reporter covering the Pentagon and related defense issues.
“I'm delighted to grow our newsroom and strengthen our ability to expose systemic corruption and abuse of power in the federal government,” said Brandon Brockmyer, head of POGO Investigates. “There is a clear and urgent need for rigorous reporting that shines a light on how national security decisions are being made and how taxpayer dollars are being spent, which is why we’re so thrilled to bring on a reporter like Kyle, who has covered defense issues for nearly a decade.”
Kyle most recently served as an assistant editor for Breaking Defense. Prior to that, he was part of The Washington Post’s breaking news team, where he covered everything from ICE protests in Minnesota to the war in Ukraine. He previously reported for the Military Times, and before becoming a journalist, served in Air Force Special Warfare and deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq.
With for-profit newsrooms facing significant strains, POGO Investigates launched earlier this year to affirm the organization’s commitment to ensuring the public has access to rigorous, evidence-based reporting that holds power to account. Since launching, the newsroom has reported on the top companies profiting from the administration’s immigration crackdown, uncovered a dark money donation made by ICE’s top detention contractor to a key ICE watchdog, published an in-depth investigation into how a military housing company is gaming the system, and more.
