The Treasury secretary has used the pandemic to inject politics into the affairs of two agencies that are supposed to be independent and non-political: the United States Postal Service and the Federal Reserve.

Low-income and racial and ethnic minority Americans have had a particularly hard time securing pandemic relief. And there's no sign Congress will approve more funds soon.

Everything hinges on the government’s effort to develop and distribute a vaccine: Will it be a well-managed effort based on sound scientific principles, or will it be a fiasco hampered by corruption, cronyism, and the influence of Big Pharma?

Corruption is sometimes just an isolated scandal. But the coronavirus pandemic and the government’s response are illustrating just how corrupt the functioning of our government has become—and just how high the stakes are.
