Voters Want Congress to End CorruptionĀ
The 120th Congress has an oversight mandate.
Washington, D.C. ā This midterm election was a clear referendum on government corruption. Voters understand how it makes their lives more difficult and less affordable, and they are demanding that the next Congress crack down on corruption, waste, and abuse of power. Isabel Munilla, Interim Executive Director at the Project On Government Oversight (POGO), issued the following statement:
āGovernment corruption was a top issue for voters this year, and for good reason. Americans across the political spectrum see a connection between worsening government corruption and the rising costs that make their lives harder. They are fed up with public officials who ignore their constituents and abuse their power to line their own pockets. Voters sent Congress a clear message: Check runaway executive power and corruption, clean up your own house, and restore accountability.
āThe new Congress was elected on an oversight mandate. That means holding ICE accountable for abuses, demanding an end to illegal wars and requiring the Pentagon to spend taxpayer dollars responsibly. It means investigating government surveillance and protecting Americansā privacy. It means banning politicians ā themselves included ā from profiting off public service through stock trading, prediction markets, and other conflicts of interest.
āAmericans want a government they can trust. But restoring trust requires more than rhetoric. Trust is earned through accountability, transparency, and integrity. The message from voters is clear: Itās time to end corruption.ā
