Open Government Expert Joins POGO; Will Develop Transparency Guide for Next President

Sean Moulton, who has worked on open government issues for more than a decade, has joined the Project On Government Oversight (POGO), where he will lead efforts to collaboratively develop a “blueprint” the next president can use to build a more open and accountable administration.

Before joining POGO, Moulton worked at the Center for Effective Government, where he analyzed legislation and regulations affecting the public’s access to government information and oversaw campaigns promoting government transparency.

“There aren’t many people in Washington who can match Sean’s deep knowledge of how our open government system works, or the best ways to improve it,” said POGO Executive Director Danielle Brian.

“I have long admired the people at POGO and the work they do. I couldn’t be more excited to join the team here,” Moulton said. “Through this program, we hope the next administration will build on the open government progress made under the Obama administration and address opportunities that were missed.”

While at the Center for Effective Government, Moulton oversaw a similar effort to develop open government recommendations for the incoming Obama administration. Moulton also co-directed the development of FedSpending.org, which allowed users to search trillions of dollars in federal spending. The site was a precursor to USASpending.gov.

Moulton, who will serve as POGO’s Open Government Program Manager, holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and English from Albright College.
