Joanna Derman

Policy Analyst

Joanna is a Policy Analyst at POGO, where she works to craft and strategically advance legislative policies that call for increased federal transparency, accountability, and oversight.

Before joining POGO, Joanna worked in the United States Senate as a Legislative Assistant, covering the national security, foreign affairs, and immigration portfolios. She successfully developed and executed policy agendas that promoted international human rights and freedom, encouraged nonproliferation and arms reduction, and required increased diversity and inclusion in foreign policy and defense institutions. She has worked with a broad range of stakeholders, including Congressional offices, executive officials, and civil society organizations.

Joanna earned her Master’s degree from the University of Oxford in 2016, and her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago in 2013. Joanna is a Fulbright scholar.
