The war in Iraq is currently costing $2 billion a week; even more is spent on the war in Afghanistan and on other operations worldwide. Worse yet, neither Congress nor the Defense Department are accurately keeping track of the past costs; nor are they fully addressing likely future costs, such as repairing and replacing the equipment that has been damaged by heavy wartime use.
