Winslow Wheeler on Congressional Oversight
Winslow Wheeler, a veteran Capitol Hill staffer, talks about his experiences working to prepare senators for committee hearings, particularly on defense matters. He shares his insights about what proper Congressional oversight is and provides tips for today’s young staffers on how they can be most effective in their roles in providing national security oversight.
“There’s lots of examples in the history of Congress of Senators and Congressmen making a real name for themselves as somebody that the witness had to fear and somebody that if you gave them an answer make sure that you’re not going to hear back from them again. That day and age is gone.”
