POGO Asks Attorney General to Investigate Kellyanne Conway and White House Social Media Director

WASHINGTON — The Project On Government Oversight (POGO) sent a letter today to Attorney General Jeff Sessions requesting a Department of Justice investigation into possible ethics violations by Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway and Director of Social Media Dan Scavino, Jr. for “endorsing the personal business interests of Ivanka Trump, daughter of President Trump and spouse of Senior White House Advisor Jared Kushner.”

Scott Amey, POGO General Counsel, said:

“Shilling for the Trump family’s business interests is not what taxpayers are paying senior White House officials to do. People need to be confident the president and his staff are working for the public good rather than the private gain of his family.

Although the president and vice president are likely exempted from some of the rules on ethical standards for executive officials, they very much apply to everyone else inside the White House.

We hope Attorney General Sessions follows through on his commitment to uphold the rule of law by opening an investigation.”
