(WASHINGTON) — The Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is launching a podcast in early April hosted by former Office of Government Ethics Director Walter Shaub and journalist Virginia Heffernan.

In the five-episode series, titled The Continuous Action, Shaub and Heffernan will delve into some of the greatest issues facing our democracy and work out practical solutions to strengthen our system of government. Through anecdotes and interviews with figures like Janai Nelson, president of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and John Sopko, the special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction, Shaub and Heffernan will engage listeners on the fight for voting rights, the pursuit of truth in government, the danger of overbroad surveillance, the power of the executive branch, and more.

The title for the podcast is derived from a line from the late John Lewis: “Freedom is the continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.” Building and maintaining a robust democracy takes work, and this series will outline the major cracks in our system that need fixing.

“I’ve devoted my career to shaping and promoting a more ethical government that serves the people, not the wealthy and the well-connected. Our democracy faces great challenges, and the American people and their leaders need to put in the work to improve our system of government,” said Shaub, senior ethics fellow at the Project On Government Oversight. “Through The Continuous Action, we will discuss some of the key threats to our democracy, learn how others are working to address those threats, and identify ways that all of us can join in the action.”
